"Animal-Assisted Services (AAS) are the mutually beneficial relationships that nurture One Health for People and other animals. Health in this context includes the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of people of all ages and the welfare of pets in service and other animals in service."
Animal-Assisted Services are goal-directed programs designed to promote improvement in people with physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial conditions in which a specially trained animal- handler team is an integral part. There are different types of animal-assisted services and it’s important to note the distinctions.
There are differences between animal-assisted therapy, animal-assisted learning, animal-assisted activities and assistance animals.

“Equine-assisted services (EAS) is recommended as an optimal unifying term to refer the multiple services in which professionals incorporate horses and other equines to benefit people.”

The SPSAE aims to promote the study of the multiple areas of Equine Assisted Services, and its dissemination in Portugal, regulate professional practice, develop the training of professionals, as well as promote national and international contacts.
